Today is Election Day in the United States. Up for grabs are the presidency, all House seats and one-third of the Senate. Since we last wrote about the state of the presidential race (see WPI 29 October), not much has changed. An average of the major polls conducted from 31 October through 5 November show 48.8 percent for President Obama versus 48.1 percent for Republican challenger Mitt Romney. Those include three polls that have the race tied, two that have Obama up by 1 point, two that have Romney up by 1 point, and one that has Obama up by 3 points.
