A survey of Ag Perspectives readers suggests likely corn yield reductions and more upside potential for soybean yields in the September WASDE report.Record-high corn and soybean yields of 175.1 bushels/acre and 48.9 bushels/acre, respectively, were predicted by USDA in the August WASDE report. Since then, crop tours and private yield forecasters have issued more modest estimates, citing concerns of tip-back in ears in the case of corn. Still, the weather has been excellent for most of the growing areas for both crops, giving rise to some of the highest-rated crop conditions in history.
