AM Outlook - Bearish Rain

GOOD MORNING, Prices started the session lower as the rainfall prospects across the Plains forecast for this weekend trumped the 10th day of active bean business announcements. Farmers need to see one or two more good rains to finish off crops and are monitoring this system closely.   Spreads are slightly weaker as we draw ever closer to harvest.   A weakening domestic bean basis weighs on the spreads and futures.  Corn struggles as traders want to see evidence of more business.  Wheat prices are lower with Egypt buying from Romania and Ukraine yesterday.  Egypt tenders for 30,000 mt of soyoil.  High quality wheat remains in big demand.   Once again weaker soyoil futures pressured beans, a...

Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
