AM Outlook - On the Defensive

GOOD MORNING, Prices are attempting to find overall trading range lows. Last week's round of liquidation hit the markets hard and most begin today still on the defensive.  Overbought markets, margin calls, and violated key support levels created a break-down in the charts.  The fall to lower levels will now shut off farmer selling and commercials may have to hunt for ways to get supplies if demand resurfaces this week.   Over the weekend, Egypt purchased some soyoil for Feb/March delivery.  Bean and corn export sales were very good last week, with meal a marketing year high, and lower values are going to probably trigger more demand for markets that still have tight ending stocks.  Argentina crops are still b...

Forecasting developments in production agriculture

On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
