Global poultry consumption is expected to hit 106 MMT this year, up from 91 MMT in 2009 and 66.4 MMT in 2000. In Asia, poultry consumption was 24.4 MMT in 2000 and will hit 42.5 MMT this year – that is 40 percent of global consumption. Growth in poultry consumption in Asia has been 67 percent since 2000 with most of that being broilers.Of course, Asia has three of the four most populous nations in the world: China, India, and Indonesia.  Two of these countries, China and India, have experienced tremendous economic growth and expanded protein consumption.
