Beef and Pork Exports

The September export data for red meat is in. Pork grew for the second month, and beef cooled off from a so-far record year. September was the first month of 2022 that beef exports were lower than year ago totals.     Exports of U.S. beef in September were down 7 percent from September 2021, in both volume and value. But even with that drop, the year-to-date export volume totals from January through September are up 4 percent, and export value totals are up 20 percent. Last year was a record for beef export value at $10.58 billion.  o far this year, total export value is $9.12 billion – which by itself would be the second largest year on record. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
