Russian Grain Markets: 5–9 August 2024 Crop Outlook Russian analysts woke up to the fact that grain production reported from farms is higher than originally predicted. The reaction was quick and most of the main analytical agencies in Russia reforecast their numbers upwards. Particularly, IKAR increased their forecast from 128 MMT to 129.5 MMT excluding occupied territories but including Crimea. They predict wheat production at 83.8 MMT versus 83.2 MMT, barley at 17.2 MMT versus 16.9 MMT, and corn at 14.3 MMT versus 14 MMT. Logically, if you increase production, you might as well increase export potential. That was done and now IKAR sees Russia as a potential exporter of 56.2 MMT of grains versus 55 MMT earlier, of which wheat is 4...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
