This trend was expected as 15 February, the date of the first imposition of the wheat export duties (€25/MT), is fast approaching. The market is currently experiencing an export boom with more than 3.3 MMT of wheat exported in January alone. This trend is likely to continue into the first two weeks of February. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
