The latest data shows that the price of ethanol is 63 percent that of gasoline, with the rule of thumb being that at a price ratio of 65 percent motorists start switching to more ethanol consumption. The auto fleet is more than 40 percent flex-fuel, which can run on mixed fuel or straight ethanol. Sugar production is up and prices are down, which is also diverting more sugar into ethanol and away from the sweetener market.
