The next round of Brexit negotiations occurs 9-10 of November. As the saying goes, “the devil is in the details.” That is a point very much underscored by a recent paper issued by the British Veterinary Association (BVA), “Brexit and the Veterinary Profession.” It highlights a key regulatory shortfall for future meat and livestock trade, which is that the “vast majority” of veterinarians supervising slaughterhouses in the U.K. come from other EU member states. Cited in the report are estimates that only 4 percent are graduates from U.K. or Commonwealth veterinary schools.
