Everyone has been so wrapped up in the U.S.-China trade issues plus weather problems in the Black Sea, EU and Australia that they have lost track of a few other weather-related problem areas, notably western Canada. This past week’s Alberta Agriculture weekly crop report highlighted the following issues:

Alberta, which typically produces about 20 percent of Canadian canola, had harvested just 13 percent of its crop as of late last week. The Peace River district canola harvest was at zero percent. The latest Stats Canada canola production estimate was 20.1 MMT versus 21.3 MMT in 2017, and the crop is now likely headed to 19 MMT or perhaps less.
