A warming climate together with improved seed traits, including Roundup-Ready,were to bring the Canadian farmer a new choice for profitability. But production of soybeans peaked in 2017 and is now in decline, as is the output of corn and canola. The reasons include weather conditions but also profitability. Instead, Canadian farmers have boosted their production of a traditional crop - wheat. Soybeans and other crops could return to compete with wheat, especially if the climate continues in a direction favorable for the warmth and better moisture demanded by other grains and oilseeds.
