Last week, WPI reported that the House passed the Livestock Special Investigator Act as part of the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act. Tomorrow, the Senate Agriculture Committee will hold a mark-up of the same Special Investigator legislation, along with the Cattle Price Discovery and Transparency Act. The latter is the mandatory minimum volume of negotiated cash trade for cattle proposal authored by Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska). Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
