Livestock China Sets Record For Pork Imports in 2020 The latest data release from the China Customs Bureau show that pork imports in December totaled 964,000 MT. That additional tonnage raised the annual total for 2020 to 9.91 MMT, an all-time record, and a 60.4 percent increase over the 2019 total. Pork and pork byproduct imports accounted for roughly 50 percent of the total imported meat volume in 2020 and were equivalent to 60 million live hogs. With the domestic price surging, the government announced plans to release 30,000 MT of reserved frozen pork to the market this Thursday. Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging.
