Macroeconomics Food Inflation Falls for the Third Straight Month For the month of May, food prices rose by 10.6 percent from a year ago, marking the smallest increase since last August. The main driver of China’s food basket, pork, was up for the fifteenth consecutive month at 81.7 percent compared to pork prices in May 2019. Nonetheless, compared to April the annualized uptick was less. Other items seeing notable increases in the their average costs include cooking oil, up 5.3 percent, and milk, up 1 percent.
