China Aims to Rebrand Domestic Dairy Industry According to the China Dairy Association, China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) expects to allocate $162 million for new milk sources this year. In recent years, Chinese consumers have been purchasing increasing amounts of imported milk powder and dairy products because of their declining confidence in the quality of domestic dairy products caused by the melamine sandal in 2008. Since 2009, about 100 foreign brands have entered the Chinese market. Four foreign brands -- namely Mead Johnson, Dumex, Wyeth and Abbott -- have taken over more than 50 percent of the Chinese market, and their total sales reach about $6.25 billion annually.
