Downturn in China's Feed Sales China's feed sales were lower in the first half of July compared to the same period in June. Hog feed consumption is down by 3 percent and poultry feed is down by 5-10 percent. It is projected that weak feed sales will continue for all of July and may possibly extend into August for several reasons. Meat consumption is traditionally low in the summer and restocking remains flat for hog and poultry. Some estimations also indicate that China's poultry inventory declined by 24 percent from April-June compared to the same period last year due to the early March H7N9 outbreak. Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
