The corn and soybean crops in the U.S. are bordering on disastrous this year because of the major drought that affected nearly every part of the Corn Belt. The USDA reduced the corn yield projection from a lofty record of 166 bushels per acre in their May report to just 123 bushels per acre in their August report. The projected soybean yield has dropped from 43.9 bushels per acre in May to 36.1 bushels per acre in August. Many analysts believe the final corn yield will be smaller than 123 bushels per acre.
