The Clean Air Act and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations require that gasoline and diesel fuels as well as fuel additives for use in highway motor vehicles must be registered with EPA. Part of the registration is analyzing the emissions generated by the fuel and fuel additive products, surveying existing scientific information for each product and, where adequate information is not available, conducting tests to screen for the potential adverse health effects of these emissions.
