Egg Case Headed to SCOTUS In 2008, California voters approved a referendum known as Proposition 2, intended to regulate the cage sizes for egg-laying hens in the state. The new regulations required retrofitting and re-engineering of production systems, which would be expensive and put in-state producers at an economic disadvantage.
