Extreme Weather Impact The polar vortex and extreme cold conditions have settled across much of the livestock, poultry and dairy producing regions of the U.S. Yesterday some packers closed and/or cancelled production shifts due to the weather and risk to both livestock and workers. The current cold is extending problems for the cattle supply. Ironically, feeders were hoping for a freeze to firm up muddy feed yards in the Plains. Warm, wet conditions and muddy pens were taking a toll on cattle. However, the sub-zero temperatures won’t help and instead just add new problems. Consistent with WPI's findings, local production to supply the plant and the facility's output have expanded exponentially since the investment.
