The House Ag Committee is scheduled to mark up the chairman’s draft of the farm bill tomorrow. The whole process is still encumbered by some partisanship (see Ag Perspectives, 13 April) with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) exhortation to the Democratic caucus to “oppose the farm bill.” However, the Democratic agenda still includes campaigns to be waged and elections to be won, so there are certain members who may need to not antagonize their farm or rural constituency. Thus, the specific request to the Democratic members of the House Agriculture Committee includes the following:
