The Senate passed the farm bill last night by a vote of 66-27. Seven Senators did not vote. Only two Democrats, Senators Jake Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse (both of Rhode Island), voted against the bill; the other 25 "no" votes were Republicans, including Agriculture Committee members Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky), Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) and John Thune (R-South Dakota). The 2012 version passed last year by a vote of 64-35, with one missing vote from Senator Mark Kirk (R-Illinois). WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment.
