The Sunday political talk shows painted a dim picture of the ongoing budget discussions between Congress and the administration. Appearing on one of them, Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Richard Shelby (R-Alabama) said that the negotiations on the border issue were running into snags over several issues, including the following:

Building a wall and how much will be appropriated for border security (now somewhere between $1.2 and $5.7 billion) Limiting the number of detention beds used by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to a maximum 16,500, including those arrested for crimes other than illegal immigration status
