GIPSA Rule Repealed Nine years of USDA rulemaking just went down the drain this week. On Tuesday, the Trump administration repealed the Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration’s (GIPSA’s) rule on livestock marketing and contracting. The legislative authority for that rule was passed in the 2008 Farm Bill. This issue has been particularly contentious since 2010 when GIPSA first proposed a rule. Many, but not all, producer groups and most meat industry groups opposed it then over a difference in interpretation of the statutory language.
