In mythology or legends, the hero is obviously identified – the “good guy” standing up for justice, not compromising what is right, and displays courage or other noble and admired qualities. Standing in contrast – but not quite opposite – to the hero is the anti-hero. Far from being a villain, however, the anti-hero is someone who lacks the traditional hero qualities. They may bend (or outright break) the rules to achieve the greater good and adopt unconventional tactics to achieve their aims.  The EPA is, in its current approach to biofuels policy, acting a bit like the anti-hero in a novel.
