Higher Feed Prices Affect Margins for Small Poultry Farmers Corn prices in the state of Andhra Pradesh reached a high of $232/MT, while soybean meal reached an all-time high of $660/MT. Broiler feed is currently available delivered at $446-464/MT. These higher feed prices are making it difficult for farmers to earn a profit. A month ago (early June) broiler prices in Hyderabad /Bangalore ranged between $1.44-1.57/kg (live), but they have since come down to $1.07/kg (live). The cost of production, on the other hand, has increased to $0.98/kg (live). With added cost of delivery, farmers will be selling at a slight loss or at breakeven.Because of the poultry disease situation across India's southern belt back in April, there were fewer plac...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
