Indian Wheat Exports: To Be or Not to Be? The trade has lowered its estimate for the Indian wheat crop from 92 MMT or more to 82-85 MMT. The government of India (GOI) is now expected to procure 33 MMT of wheat against the previous target of 42-44 MMT. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will buy 11 MMT in Punjab, 7 MMT in Haryana, 9 MMT in Madhya Pradesh, 3 MMT in Uttar Pradesh and 2.5 MMT in Bihar.On 1 July 2013, the total amount of wheat in FCI warehouses should be 31.9 MMT, with 26.9 MMT as a buffer and 3.0 MMT as strategic reserves. As of 1 May, FCI warehouses had 11.74 MMT of wheat.
