India's Food Inflation According to Consumer Price Index (CPI) calculations, retail inflation eased slightly to 9.52 percent for August 2013 from 9.64 percent the previous month. However, food inflation hit a three-year high of 18.18 percent on the back of a huge increase in the prices of onions and other vegetables. Food inflation was 11.9 percent in July 2013.The increased food prices pushed the headline inflation, or Whole Sale Price Index (WPI), for the third month in a row to a six-month high of 6.1 percent in August.
