Lake Geneva Switzerland officially notified the WTO today that it will formally agree to the agreement on fisheries subsidies. WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala immediately pronounced that Switzerland’s acceptance will spur “real momentum” toward widespread adoption. The fisheries agreement addresses ocean sustainability. Switzerland is a land-locked mountainous country. By widespread, Okonjo-Iweala must mean she is now expecting adoption by Austria, the Central African Republic, Paraguay, Laos and other land-locked nations.
