USDA will release its Cattle Inventory report tomorrow. The total inventory of all cattle and calves as of 1 January 2020 was 94.4 million head, down a little less than half of one percent from 94.8 million head on 1 January 2019. The 2021 inventory report is expected to show a similar drop.  The Cattle Inventory report is released twice per year; the last was the mid-year report which showed all cattle and calves at 103 million head, just slightly above 2019. Basically, the 1 July herd size has been the same for three years, with 2018, 2019, and 2020 inventories all at 101 percent of 2017.
