ASF and Turkey Turkey prices have been in a relative tailspin for two years. Wholesale hen prices started dropping in mid-2017 from about $1/pound and reached below $0.80/pound by December 2018. Prices have firmed in the past few months, largely due to exports, and a good portion of those sales has been the result of Mexico’s hedging against the African swine fever (ASF) impact on pork prices. Turkey can be used as a substitute for pork in processed products.
