USDA’s monthly Cattle on Feed report would normally be released tomorrow. It is suspended however due to the government shutdown. The question is whether the report will be published. What we have is history to look back on. During previous shutdowns in 2013 the report was published at the end of the month, though that shutdown lasted only 16 days. This year we’re in the 23rd day. Then in 2018-2019, the shutdown lasted 35 days. The affected report was for January, which was published on the 22 February 2019, and the February report was published in early March (not the normal third Friday of the month). WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
