Yesterday, the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) issued a federal order requiring testing and reporting of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) for the interstate movement of lactating dairy cattle. Specific guidance will be issued at some point today, and the order will go into effect on Monday 29 April. Per the Order, prior to interstate movement, dairy cattle will be required to receive a negative test for the Influenza A virus at an approved National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) laboratory.
