The CBOT was focused on USDA’s two major reports that were issued at noon today – the Planting Intentions report and the quarterly Grain Stocks report. The acreage figure and grain stocks numbers were bearish corn and bullish soybeans, while the wheat numbers were mostly in-line with expectations and were neutral. The market was apparently unimpressed by the USDA’s estimates, however, as the corn market closed fractionally lower after acreage estimates exceeded expectations and soybeans closed 3 cents higher after a much smaller supply outlook.  The muted reaction to the reports is likely a function of (at least) two factors.
