General Comments NOAA's National Climatic Data Center released its report on 2012 which declares that the average U.S. temperature for 2012 was 55.3 degrees Fahrenheit, 3.2 degrees Fahrenheit higher than the 20th century average and 1.0 degrees higher than the previous average temperature average set in 1998. The year of 2012 included the warmest spring temperatures ever and the second warmest summer. These extremes were accompanied by historically low precipitation in the Central United States. As we well know, the drought, along with extreme heat, severely damaged crop production.
