General Comments Today's USDA's weekly shutdown-delayed export sales report covered the week that ended 3 October. Traders and analysts were looking forward to this report to see if rumors of significant export sales being made in early October could finally be confirmed, and to some extent they were. The report showed that soy complex and corn sales were quite large during the period of 27 September-3 October. Export wheat sales volume was not quite as impressive as the others, but still quite respectable.The soy complex showed net sales of 929,800 MT of soybeans and 1.1892 MMT of soymeal, which included a net of 850,100 MT of new sales plus 339,100 MT carried over from the 2012/13 soymeal crop year that ended 31 September. Communicating importance of value-added products

Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
