The soybean market was rife with rumors of Chinese defaults and a Chinese government crackdown on letters of credit, supposedly issued to pay for commodity imports being used to finance unrelated projects. General Comments Grain and soy futures markets have prospered in 2014 – so far. From 2 January when they entered the New Year until their recent highs, soybeans have gained about $2.34, corn has added about $0.97 and CME wheat has picked up $1.19.
