Markets surprised the trade a bit and opened with small gains Sunday night, led by KC wheat despite the rainfall across portions of the southern Plains hard red winter wheat region. Although that area’s predicted weekend rain event did occur, coverage and amounts were not as good as advertised. Minneapolis wheat futures were hammered again today because temperatures across the northern Plains will quickly shift from well below normal to above normal. This better weather won’t provide a significant change in planting progress for a week or two.
