Grain and, especially, soy futures played a waiting game overnight and again during the day session, anticipating some news from the trade discussions between high level U.S. and Chinese officials that began Thursday in Beijing. According to press reports, the first day’s meetings broke without any comment from participants. It is hoped that some comments will be available after Friday’s meeting. If so, they should hit the news about 6-7 a.m. (EST). There are also the ongoing negotiations over NAFTA 2.0 that some reports put in the final stages, although there is no sign of a resolution of U.S. complaints over Canada’s dairy supply management program that severely restricts its exports of dairy products to that nation.
