The OECD notes the advantages of poultry meat over competing major animal proteins pork and beef. Its lower cost due to a better feed conversion ratio particularly gives it an edge in challenging economic times. As WPI’s Dave Juday often points out, poultry also lacks the religion-based barriers presented to beef and pork. The prediction is that poultry meat consumption will surpass current number one animal protein pork in less than ten years.  However, that forecast is heavily based on the fall in pork consumption in China due to ASF.
