Wheat Argentina’s wheat harvest is moving quickly and advanced 11 percent last week, reaching 31 percent total completion. The harvest is finished in the north with farmers posting the lowest yields in five years at 0.85 MT/ha. Further south, yields are still disappointing with the northern end of Cordoba averaging 1.25 MT/ha while Santa Fe fields are producing 1.5 MT/ha. Even in the northern edge of the core wheat-growing region, yields are only 1.9 MT/ha. The national average yield will improve as the harvest reaches the center and south of the core area, but yields are highly likely to be below average in all these areas. In the Buenos Aires province, rains that fell late last week and over the weekend will help with the gr...
Illuminating the value of technical research
On behalf of a commodity producer organization, WPI evaluated the outputs from a project that featured a $5 million investment into technical research over multiple years. WPI’s team captured the results of this extensive effort and synthesized them for presentation to the organization’s governing board; among the findings uncovered and presented for the first time was the development of genomic traits proven, via rigorous testing, to provide crop yield advantages of 50 percent or more to U.S. farmers in times of drought. Capturing measurable results from long-term efforts can be challenging. Educating clients on the dynamics of success measurement when quantifiable results are not readily available requires deep client-consultant collaboration and an ability to consider both near- and long-term client aspirations with market/policy dynamics – attributes that WPI brings to every consulting engagement.
