Regional Updates MIDDLE EAST/MEDITERRANEAN COMMENTS The Moroccan government says that crops for 2017/18 are “exceptional” with grain production up more than 7 percent at over 10 MMT: 4.9 MMT of wheat, 2.4 MMT of durum wheat and 3 MMT of barley. This was achieved despite the 17 percent reduction in plantings due to late rainfall. However, the very good rains increased yields overall. Rainfall in 2017/18 was up about 10 percent over the previous year. Authorities in Egypt are very concerned that Netherlands-based ING Group will no longer provide financing for GASC’s wheat imports.
