Fourteen percent of food is said to be lost in the food chain from farm to wholesale with another 17 percent lost at the retail and consumer level – a 31 percent loss in all. The 123 Pledge is a series of actions that must be taken by countries and groups to reduce food waste. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development. WPI’s methodology included a series of interviews with regional grain elevators and seed consultants.
