Regional Food Crisis A trifecta of problems including soaring interest rates, high commodity prices and a depreciating national currencies are threatening food security across the Middle East/Africa region. Many of the countries that import a large share of their food supply are in the region. Notably, 12 of the world’s top 20 depreciating currencies thus far in 2022 are in the Middle East/North Africa and are having trouble paying for food imports.
