On 30 June, the U.S. Department of Commerce (DOC) received a petition to impose countervailing duties (CVD) and anti-dumping duties (AD) on imports of urea ammonium nitrate solutions (UAN) from Russia and Trinidad and Tobago. Commerce is proceeding with the investigation on imports from 1 January 2020 - 31 December 2021. The petition alleges unfair margins of between 169.96 to 391.65 percent on UAN imports from Russia and 158.81 percent from Trinidad and Tobago. The preliminary determination from DOC is expected on 23 September for the CVD case and 7 December for the AD case, which would affect fall applications and fall purchases of UAN for 2022. Forecasting developments in production agriculture
On behalf of a private U.S. agricultural technology provider, WPI’s team generated an econometric model to forecast the movement of concentrated corn production north and west from the traditional U.S. Corn Belt. WPI’s model has subsequently provided quantitative support to a multi-million-dollar investment into short-season corn variety development.
