Thursday’s weekly USDA export sales report, which contained small totals for corn, wheat and soybeans along with sales cancellations of the latter to China, sent the markets reeling lower after its release. The initial weakness then triggered some significant technical selling, and the market took out some key technical support. The problem is that the data that caused the sell-off was for the week ending 3 January, making the report six weeks old. In addition, it covered the New Year’ holiday week. The sales cancellations to China were also old news, and it has purchased in excess of 10 MMT since then.
