Forecast for Brazil’s Soybean Crop Increased Brazil’s crop supply agency (CONAB) this week increased its forecast for the 2020 Brazilian soybean crop. Its latest forecast is for a crop of 124.205 MMT (4.563 million bushels), up from its February forecast of 123.25 MMT (4.528 billion bushels). The crop is based on an area of 36.82 million hectares (90.98 million acre) and an average yield of 3.373 MT/hectare (50.15 bushels/acre). Brazil produced 115.03 MMT (4.226 billion bushels) of soybeans in 2019. Communicating importance of value-added products
Facing increasing pressure to quantify the value of export promotion efforts to investors, a U.S. industry organization retained WPI to develop a quantitative model that better communicated the importance of exports. The resulting model concluded that value-added meat exports contributed $0.45 cents per bushel to the price of corn, increasing support for that sector’s financial support of WPI’s client. In addition to serving the red meat industry with this type of analysis, WPI has generated similar deliverables for the U.S. soybean and poultry/egg industries.
