Malaysia to Double Use of Palm-Based Biodiesel The glut and low prices of palm oil have caused the government of Malaysia to double the blending requirement for biodiesel with diesel from the current 10 percent to 20 percent by 2020, according to Minister of Primary Industries Teresa Kok. Oil World estimates Malaysia used 1.14 MMT of palm oil to produce biodiesel in CY 2018, and it is not clear if the country has enough capacity to double output in one year. Raising palm oil usage to 2.8 MMT would help reduce surplus stocks, but it would not do much to decrease the more than 14 MMT of global palm oil stocks that existed at the end of last year.
