U.S. Soy Export Sales Highlights Today’s USDA export sales report showed the week ending 25 June was a very disappointing one for exporters of U.S. soybeans, soymeal and soyoil, at least for MY 2019/20. However, sales of soybeans for export in 2020/21 were a bit more positive. Net sales of U.S. soybeans last week totaled 241,700 MT for 2019/20 shipment and 841,700 MT for 2020/21. The sales for shipment in 2019/20 were a low for any week during the marketing year and were 63 percent below the past four-week average. The top sales for 2019/20 were for Egypt (81,000 MT), Mexico (45,500 MT), Indonesia (35,300 MT), Tunisia (30,000 MT), and Taiwan (26,200 MT). WPI’s team was retained by the governing board of a U.S. industry organization to review a decision, reached by vote, to invest significant assets into the development and management of an export trading company. WPI’s team conducted a formal review of this decision and concluded that the current level of market saturation would limit the benefits of the investment. Based on WPI’s analysis and recommended actions, the board subsequently reversed its decision and undertook a strategic planning effort to identify more impactful investments.
